The September meeting will be at the Empire Room in the Rood Center on Thursday, 9/3/2026 at 18:30hrs.

We will discuss plans for upcoming Simulated Emergency Training Exercise (SET). The 2026 SET is scheduled for Saturday, November 7.

Tonight’s meeting, Aug 6, begins at 18:30hrs. We will meet at the Empire Conference Room, 2nd Floor of the Rood Center in Nevada City. Visitors are welcome. The meeting will pause briefly for the regular ARES Net that takes place at 19:00hrs. Bring an HT to check-in to the net.

NC ARES welcomes Kevin Cartzdafner, KO6OLS. Kevin is from Nevada City and recently got his Tech license. Our ARES group serves the Nevada County region and welcomes all radio operators. To join ARES, click here.

Next ARES meeting will be on Thursday August 6, 18:30hrs at the EOC in the Rood Center. Meetings will continue on the 1st Thursday of each month for the balance of 2026.

Due to a schedule conflict, ARES will meet on the 1st Wednesday in June and July. Meetings will return to the 1st Thursdays in August. Members should watch for updates in the weekly ARES email.

ATTENTION – The 1st meeting in February will be on FRIDAY, Feb 6, at the Rood Center Empire Conference Room (2nd Floor). This is a one time change. Meeting begins at 18:30hrs. See the group email for agenda.

Welcome to 2026. There will be no NC ARES meeting this evening. The next meeting will be 1/15/2026 at the Salvation Army Community Center in Grass Valley. 73 N6ERL

This week NC ARES members participated in a large scale emergency training exercise. Simulating the arrival of a major snow storm, similar to those in 2021 and 2023, OES teams, Red Cross members, representatives from CalFire, PG&E, and local Sheriff, and Cities of Nevada City and Grass Valley, plus Placer County OES, gathered at the NC Emergency Operations Center for a briefing. From there teams were deployed to open a emergency shelter and evaluate damage from the “Snownado” storm. ARES members AI6MC Cal, and N6ERL Peter provided emergency Comms between the EOC and Emergency Shelter in Nevada City. Voice and Winlink messages were passed including a photo via Packet Winlink (slow, so not recommended). The event was a huge success, and a great way to introduce ARES to the wider NC Emergency Services Community.
