Ares ToGo Box
Last year I built a ToGo box with a 2 meter radio, batteries, chargers etc. The Kit is portable and contains a TNC for digital modes. I encourage every member to complete a similar project to have a mobile station for use in deployment emergencies. Check it out!
Local Ares Helps in Disasters
During the McCourtney & Loma fires of 2017 we were deployed to the Red Cross shelter. The shelters at one time were temporary homes for over 100 evacuees. The time we were posted, the event was winding down but we did get some recognition for deploying. Cal was taking this photo which made it to the paper.
Nevada County Ares Presentation
This presentation is general and meant to allow other organizations to understand the benefit that we can provide to their OES organization. The format in in PDF.
Red Cross Recognition
Members of the Nevada County ARES team assisted the Red Cross (Sacramento) in building a “to go” box for the deployment of ARES teams during emergencies. The 2-meter box consisted of a Kenwood 2 meter mobile radio, power supply and modem for digital modes. Jim Piper of RedCross hopes to deploy several of the “go” boxes for this region.

Code Red

Make sure you are signed up for Code Red. This is a phone app that will allow your phone to be notified in the event of evacuations. I had the app during last years McCourtney fire and it notified me that I needed to evacuate. The county is trying to get as many residents signed up as possible.
